Stop using fabric softener on your delicate laundry!
Why Fabric Softener Damages Delicate Laundry?
You may think that fabric softener on delicate laundry is a good choice. It’s not. Fabrics softener coats your garments and is insoluble – meaning your coat now has a coat of softener on it…
Fabric Softener Damages Delicate Laundry
If you’re ever wondering if you should or shouldn’t use fabric softener, the answer is probably no.
In general, fabric softener is not good for your laundry or your washing machine.
We wash a lot of laundry. And, we know not everyone is equally committed to their laundry. Some people don’t care. But, some people do!
That’s why we want to make sure you know – fabric softener is not good for your laundry, especially for your delicate garments.
Fabric softener may seem like a friend to your laundry, but in reality, it doesn’t provide any actual cleaning benefits. It doesn’t remove stains or eliminate odours from your clothing. Instead, it coats your clothes in a waxy, water-resistant layer that, while initially making them feel softer, actually reduces their ability to absorb water and detergent over time.
Remember, fabric softener is not necessary for a clean wash. We recommend that you avoid fabric softener altogether to keep your clothes and your washing machine in the best possible condition.

Avoid Fabric Softener on Certain Garments
Look, maybe we won’t talk you out of using fabric softener on your sheets and towels. But we hope you try to avoid fabric softener on your delicate laundry at least.
Down Comforters & Coats
Fabric softener produces a waxy film that does not mix well with down feathers.
Down is the feather clusters of fluffy duck or goose down, rather than duck or goose feathers. can get caught on top of certain fabrics, such as down-filled comforters, coats, and blankets. This can cause the feathers to mat together.
While it is possible to partially repair the damaged down item, it will never be as soft and fluffy as it once was.
Workout Clothes
It makes too much sense, right? Workout clothes smell bad and can get stuff. Why wouldn’t you use fabric softener. Wrong.
With fabric softener in the washer, the workout clothes are coated in softener and water can’t get through the actual fibers that need cleaning.
It means stains will set in your laundry quicker and more often.
A better option would be an enzyme detergent if you’re looking to give these clothes an extra type of treatment.
Bathing Suits & Swimwear
Swimwear is another material where fabric softener could potentially cause more harm than good. Since swimwear is typically made of synthetic materials, fabric softener can cause it to weaken and tear more quickly.
Additionally, washing or drying swimwear with fabric softener or conditioner could cause it to absorb more moisture, thus slowing the drying process and leaving it with a musty odor.
Keep fabric softener away from your bathing suits!
Wool Sweaters
Wool is the opposite of soft. Maybe it could use some fabric softener?
Please don’t! Wool is naturally a hefty material. The heftiness of wool is what gives it it’s famous lightness and fluffiness underneath the coarse exterior. But, when you coated with conditioner, the wool flattens and you’ll lose texture and warmth.
Additionally, fabric softener can cause these types of materials to mat or fall apart which isn’t the end of the world but it will make it fit differently. And, that’s never fun…
