Massage oil won’t come out in a normal wash cycle. Most residential washing machines don’t get hot enough. It takes a bit more elbow grease. Here are some at-home remedies to get massage oil out of sheets.

1. Strip linens to get massage oil out of sheets

Laundry stripping is a great way to get massage oil out of sheets. But, what is laundry stripping?

It’s also known as an “extended treatment” which is essentially a 24 hour soak with a chemical solution of Borax, powdered detergent and washing soda along with extra hot water.

This method will indeed will indeed break down build-up on clothes, but it could also leach out dye and naturally-occurring oils in fabric. Check your item’s care tag before using this method to make sure it can handle a hot water soak.

Laundry stripping is great for white table linens and towels. While it does work with colors, be prepared for some slight fading.

Step 1: Fill your bathtub or a large bucket/bin with very hot water.
Step 2: Mix in 1/4 cup of Borax, 1/4 cup of washing soda and 1 cup of powdered laundry detergent.
Step 3: Place clothes in the soaking solution and stir.
Step 4: Leave the clothes to soak overnight, stirring them occasionally.
Step 5: Drain the tub or bucket. Rinse clothes in your washing machine on a rinse only cycle or by hand until the water runs clear.
Step 6: Dry linens and towels as usual.

2. Wash stained sheets with a degreasing solvent

Laundry detergent won’t be enough.

We recommend Orange Linen Degreaser. Degreasers are specialized and separate cleaning agents that remove organic soils such fats, oils, and proteins. Organic stains need a higher alkaline cleanser. Your commercial linens are being put through commercial use. This means they need more than a residential detergent. The right degreaser will make a difference.

3. Cotton sheets will release stains the best

Use 100% cotton linens. These release oil completely, unlike polyester-cotton blends or microfiber. Polyester tends to attract and hold oil.

Linen inventory is an investment, not a cost. We’ve found that our laundry service cusotmers with higher quality linens tend to have less headaches. Opt for high-quality, durable 100% cotton linens. Cotton table linens are breathable, moisture-wicking, and easy to clean.
